Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccine is administered against tuberculosis disease. This vaccine is prepared from attenuated (weakened), avirulent live bovine tuberculosis bacillus, Mycobacterium bovis. This vaccine stimulates the body’s immune system against the tuberculosis disease. This vaccine is always given on the left shoulder and it is given only once in a lifetime. In very few cases, an MT test done - in case the MT is negative re-vaccination with BCG is mandatory.
